Shree Badrinath Temple, also known as Badrinarayan Temple, located in Badrinath city of Uttarakhand, is one of the Char Dham (Four Important Journeys) temples in the state. There are four pilgrimage destinations, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, collectively known as Char Dham. These pilgrimage centers attract large numbers of pilgrims every year, making them the most important centers of religious pilgrimage in the whole of North India.

History of Shree Badrinath Temple

Being one of the most legendary temple, Badrinath has many legends associated with it. According to one of the legends, Lord Vishnu did severe penance at this place. During his intense meditation he was unaware of the severe weather conditions. His consort, goddess Lakshmi, assumed the form of a Badri tree and spread over it to protect him from the scorching heat of the sun. Seeing this, Lord Vishnu was pleased with her devotion and named the place Bhadrikshram after her.
