Shri Naina Devi Temple is one of the most famous places of worship in Himachal Pradesh. Located in Dist Bilaspur, it is one of the 51 Shaktipiths where Sati's limbs fell on the ground. This holy place witnesses a large number of pilgrims and devotees throughout the year, especially during Shravan Ashtami, Chaitra and Ashwin Navaratras.

Story Behind Maa Naina Devi Temple

According to the legends and also written in the Vedas and Puranas, Goddess Sati burnt herself alive in a yagna, which upset Lord Shiva. He picked up Satin's body on his shoulders and started the Tandava dance. This worried all the gods in Heaven, as it could lead to a massacre. This prompted Lord Vishnu to release the chakra that cut Sati's body into 51 pieces. Sri Nina Devi Temple is the place where Goddess Sati fell.

Another story is about a young child begins with a happy home. While the boy was looking at the heirlooms, he found a draft of Devin's description. He saw a white cow burn its milk on a stone for several days, and eventually discussed the experience with the king, Raja Bir Chand. After seeing the event, the king built this temple at this place.
