About Akshardham Temple

The Akshardham Temple or Swami narayan Akshardham Temple is one of the most important temples in the world and is best known for its size. It is a Hindu Temple located in New Delhi and it was opened in November 2005. It is the largest comprehensive Hindu Temple in the world and it has also been awarded with the Guinness World Record.

Akshardham is an Indian spiritual-cultural campus that displays millennia of tradition, culture and architecture. It was inspired by Yogiji Maharaj and constructed by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. The temple is a popular tourist destination in Delhi and attracts over 70 percent of all visitors to the city.

Located at the Yagnapurush Kund in Akshardham Temple, the Sahaj Anand Water Show is a spectacular display of colored lasers, water jets, underwater flames and surround sound. The show is held daily and is around 24 minutes long.

Inside Akshardham Temple

Inside the temple, there are nine mandapams that are adorned with intricate carvings on pillars and domes along with captivating statues. This hypnotic beauty reflects the spirituality of the Hindu faith.

The inner sanctum of the temple houses the 1.2-tonne gold-plated idol of Lord Swaminarayan in a sitting posture, flanked by Swami Gunatitanand and Swami Gopalanand Swami. This awe-inspiring image is said to be the abode of Bhagwan Swaminarayan whenever he incarnates on this planet.

There are also a number of other idols within the inner sanctum of the temple including Shiv Parvati, Sita Ram and Lakshmi Narayan. These deities are believed to bring good luck and happiness to the devotees.

Another major attraction at Akshardham Temple is the Gajendra Peeth, which is a unique structure that pays tribute to elephants in Indian culture. This 1070 ft long structure features 148 elephants that weigh a total of 3000 tons and dozens of sculptures of animals, birds and humans.

The Gajendra Peeth is engraved with stories of social harmony and peace that reflect the old shilpa Shastra of India. It also depicts the ancient Hindu faith of Swami narayan Akshardham Temple and the values of Indian culture like Courage, Honesty, Endurance, Faith and Ahimsa.

Located at the base of the Gajendra Peeth is an exquisite garden that resembles a lotus. This is a beautiful structure that contains a variety of quotes and messages from famous personalities and aims to spread the love of God among the people.

The awe-inspiring structure of the Akshardham Temple is made from stone without cement or metal so that it can last for generations to come. It consists of 234 ornately carved pillars, 9 ornate domes and 20,000 murtis of sadhus, acharyas and divine incarnations of India.
